The Hunger Games star Josh Hutcherson is among the 271 people who have been invited to join the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences on Thursday, June 27.
“The academy is committed to bringing new voices into our ranks,” President Cheryl Boone Isaacs said in an interview Thursday. “We are encouraging our members to be our ambassadors, looking for folks of color, gender and international status to become members. This has been an initiative here for a number of years, and some are a little better than others — but we’re committed to diversify.”
Along with Josh, several of The Hunger Games crew have been extended the invite. These include Catching Fire‘s editor, Alan Edward Bell, sound designer Jeremy Peirson, and visual effects supervisor Eric Reynolds.
The invitation is extended to those “who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures.” Those who accept this invitation will be the only ones to take up membership in the year 2014.
Among other invitees are Michael Fassbender, Mads Mikkelsen, Barkhad Abdi, and this year’s Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o.
